PROFILE
Ian and Terry Frankland, the founding partners of Taffspeed, had been involved in tuning and racing Vespa and Lambretta scooters from the early 1970's.
In 1971 Ian and Terry Frankland was grass track racing for the Avon Valley Scooter Club under the name of Terrible Taffs and in 1972 they registered for grass track racing using the name of Taffspeed and this was the ground work which led Ian and Terry Frankland of Taffspeed onto competitive scooter racing on the racetrack.
From 1973/4 they started racing under the banner of Taffspeed Racing, Ian and Terry Frankland went on and won trophy after trophy year after year.
The experience gained during that period enabled them to start one of Britain's leading mail order shops for scooter tuning, spares and accessories.
As a firm, Taffspeed opened for business in May 1983, at 71, Corporation Road, Newport NP19 OBG, with the aim of supplying spares and tuning services for scooter riders.
Since May 1983, the range of products that we stock has grown to over 10,000 items, and we are continually adding to this as new products become available. The increasing number of automatic scooters in circulation has given rise to another area in which we specialise. Also, the knowledge that we are gaining from our involvement with scooter race tuning is being passed on to our scooter performance product range.
Taffspeed Limited is here to supply motorcyclists and scooterists with the performance parts they need at competitive prices. We have large stocks of the most common performance improving parts for many Vespa, Lambretta and Automatic scooters (such as Aprilia, Atala, Beta, BSV, Cagiva, Derbi, Fantic, Garelli, Gilera, Honda, HSC, Italjet, Kymco, Lem, Malaguti, MBK, PGO, Peugeot, Piaggio, Suzuki & Yamaha scooters).
As well as supplying parts we also pride ourselves on our knowledge and experience of scooter tuning, which allows us to provide the technical advice our customers demand. Based at our shop in Newport, South Wales, we supply parts to customers all over the world via mail order. We take orders by phone, e-mail, eBay, and our Taffspeed website.
In 1994 we Taffspeed were the first company in Wales who purchased a Dynojet Rolling Road Dynamometer for the purpose of speeding up the development side of our business. The plus side of this is that was Taffspeed could do the final testing and jetting of machines right in our own workshop.
Early in 1998 Taffspeed set up email facilities and started our ever-expanding web site, which aims to offer technical tuning advice, prices, news and even a little fun and entertainment for our customers around the world.
